Plastic Entanglement

Future Roadmap, [Design Resilience] RCA 2024
Master Project

What if we had to implant artificial organs to remove microplastics from our bodies in the future?

This project examines the Past(history) and Present of microplastics to predict a roadmap for the Future. Through this process, I identified thought - provoking ‘What If’ questions to create future scenarios.

A world polluted by microplastics is no longer seen as a problem to be solved but rather as a phenomenon humanity must face. As one way to address this Anthropocene phenomenon, speculative questions are proposed:

What if humanity could no longer sustain natural agriculture? If microplastics saturated the soil and water, we would have to rely solely on smart farming, potentially leading to another hierarchy of materials. Moreover, microplastics are ingested through breathing, posing a critical threat to humanity. What if we had to implant artificial organs to combat this? By predicting various future scenarios, we are prompted to reflect on the phenomena we face today.
